The Open Enterprise Community is a project aimed at building an open collaborative business based upon ideas published in the book "Wikinomics - How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything" by written by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams.
The Communities efforts are focused on the development and growth of the website: OpenEnterpriseMarketplace.com where the act of commerce takes place. The two sites are likely to be integrated together on the one server so that there is a cross fertilization of ideas between the community and marketplace.
We are using Drupal as our base technology layer, chosen because of its adaptability, commitments to security, API structure and because it embellishes the best of OpenSource. Upon the Drupal core we intend to build a multi-dimensional web experience for users whom are given the opportunity to build simple or complex Enterprise Networks with very little or even zero outlay. I.e. We will endeavor to provide the software required for Enterprise to users for free and not try to sell it under a contract as in SAAS (Software as a Service).
We imagine that all software required by Enterprises can be supplied to users via the web browser. You can see the evidence for yourself when at work because much of the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning), CRM (Customer Relationship Management), Email, Issue Tracking, Stock Control etc softwares are now Browser based. There is one drawback to having various vendors for each piece of software, that is that the software is nigh on impossible to integrate together so that the pieces can easily share information between themselves. Even in the OpenSource world where you have different pieces of potentially useful code from different authors, each with their unique qualities of interacting with an array of Databases, integration between them is tricky and time consuming at best. Therefore, It is our goal to provide a suite of Enterprise grade software technologies that are integrated, easy to use and can be accessed from the home office or anywhere you may be.
